1. FAQ

Is LidRock a CD or a CD-ROM?
LidRock is an Enhanced CD, which means it works as a normal music CD in standard audio CD players, but also works as a multimedia CD-ROM on a computer.

Will this Enhanced CD play on all computers?
LidRock will play on almost all Macintosh and PC systems, but not everywhere. LidRock is a multi-session CD, and with this format the CD-ROM data is stored after the audio, in a second session on the disc. This allows for easy audio playback. However, older computers (pre-1995, as well as pre-Windows 95) cannot always access the second session to see the multimedia content.

If you can't get this CD-ROM to run, it is very likely that your system is not able to read a multi-session-formatted Enhanced CD. You can upgrade, get new drivers, or try another computer (updates can be found on the Microsoft and Apple Web sites).

Will LidRock discs play in all CD players?
LidRock discs are smaller than normal CDs, so they will not play in slot-loading CD players. On a slot-loading player, you feed a disc into a slot in the front of the player, or slide the disc into the cartridge of a CD changer. LidRock discs will only play in tray-loading CD players (like most home CD players, where the disc is loaded into a slide-out tray) and spindle-loading CD players (like most portable CD players, where the center hole of the disc "snaps" onto a spindle).

Most car CD players are slot-loading, as are some computer CD players. Do not attempt to play a LidRock disc in a slot-loading player -- you could damage your equipment. LidRock discs will work in most other CD and DVD players.

Do LidRock discs work in both Macintosh and Windows computers?
Yes, LidRock discs are designed to work on both Macintosh and Windows computers.

Do I need to be connected to the Internet to use LidRock discs?
A LidRock disc uses a combination of off-line (on the disc) and on-line (on the Internet) content. The disc is designed to do this as transparently as possible. When you access a feature on the LidRock disc that requires an Internet connection, LidRock will check to see if that connection is available. If it is not, a message will be displayed requesting that you establish an Internet connection before proceeding.

If you do not have an Internet connection, you will still be able to enjoy all the material that is on the LidRock disc itself, including the music tracks.

Are the song tracks on LidRock discs normal CD quality?
Yes. When you play LidRock music on a standard audio CD player, all the song tracks are true CD-quality audio, just like on a regular music CD.

When you play LidRock music through the LidRock audio player interface, the songs are very near CD-quality audio, as with a high-quality MP3 audio file.

What do I need to do to use a LidRock disc in my computer?
Establish an Internet connection, place the disc in the drive, and you're ready to go. The disc will launch itself on your computer, and the Interface will guide you through everything on the disc.

If you don't have an Internet connection, just place the disc in the drive and you can experience everything except the Web content.

4. Troubleshooting
If you are still having trouble, here are some suggestions, but remember that technology is far from perfect:

Are you using a current version of the computer's operating system? Check the specs outlined above to make sure you are following the system requirements to run LidRock.

Does your CD-ROM drive actually work? Is it installed correctly? Try using another CD-ROM to see if it works.

Do you have a defective copy of the LidRock CD? While this is very rare, it can happen. A regular CD can have a flaw or dust speck and you never notice it. But multimedia CD-ROMs are more sensitive -- one flaw in the wrong spot and it will cause problems, maybe even prevent the disc from playing entirely. Try cleaning the disc carefully with a lint-free cloth, wiping from the center to the edge, and then try to play it again.

Please make sure you have enough RAM! AT LEAST 16 MB of free application RAM at the time of running LidRock is required, along with a 4X or faster CD-ROM drive. LidRock will run better if you don't have any other applications running, as well. And, for Mac users, NO VIRTUAL MEMORY!

If the program is running in the center of your screen but doesn't fill your screen, you can reset your monitor resolution to 800x600 for full-screen viewing.

Internet Connections
The Web site links on this CD enable a direct connection to some really cool stuff. You will need an Internet connection and browser software, such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer (current versions recommended) for these links to work properly.

AOL Users
Based on the release notes from AOL 5.0 and above, AOL users must login to AOL and initiate a Web browser (any recent version of Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) from the desktop before running the LidRock CD. Once the browser is running in the background, the Web links on the CD should work as designed.

If you have trouble, simply type the following URL in the address/location field in your browser:

Screensavers on the Macintosh
You can only have one Screensaver Control Panel at a time. If you switch out the Screensaver Control Panel, you will need to restart your computer.
